“The experiences of pregnancy, birth and motherhood have greatly enriched my understanding of the Great Work, the holy war that is fought not externally but within. Although the experience of birthing another human offers an immense and sacred opportunity for evolution, our earth trip is ripe with such opportunities - we are all always giving birth to something or else mercifully being reborn. My work focuses on the harrowing passage and the nectar of the hard-won prize. Birthing demands at once ultimate effort and ultimate surrender, microcosmically reflecting the truth that we must die to fully live. The chrysalis splits, the seed breaks earth, the infant crowns; once again we make the hero’s pilgrimage through the seemingly impassable threshold and are reborn into the ether, more whole and alive than our egoic self could have imagined, ever tethered to the nourishing funiculus of God.”

still the only way past is through.

First mired in pickled gulch,
next breathless at mountain’s peak.
Though sweetness bled from our one tongue,
Like bare nerves plucked, that passage stung.
The cleaving of the cleft is near.

“You Shift Your Vibage and You Shift Your Vibage Back” by Nathan HaydenNATHAN HAYDEN received his BFA from Miami University (OH) in 2001 and an MFA from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2009. Spending the first eight years of his life living with his family in log cabin built by his father in rural West Virginia, Hayden began his early exploration of drawing and woodcarving and developed an interest in the naturally occurring forms and patterns he encountered while playing in the woods. Influenced by these childhood experiences he employs multiple mediums including painting on industrial felt, installations incorporating spun wool, drawing, text and dancing. -

SHANNA HILL Shanna Hill is a musician and writer who enjoys considering the minimal,primal and humorous aspects of language and sound. While a lover of all things ethereal and magical she prefers to leave those matters to the more practiced psychonaut unless she gets to wear a cool muumuu. Shanna studied poetry at The New School in New York and is a member of the bands Guitars,Qulielfi and New Age Pussy (which will debut their first song at the Portals opening - in praise of the Divine Mother). Coming soon from the rainy wastelands of Seattle will be her sad girl solo project The Other Maria.

“World of Interiors” by Matthew Morgan
MATTHEW MORGAN received an MFA from Bard in 2007. He is a sculptor/ furniture maker living in Topanga Canyon, CA. His current passion project is a lifestyle brand called “Personhood” which he will launch in 2013. He is also trying to be the official spokesman for Crocs. He is one half of the incredibly well known and respected band “(our) Living Sacrifice” with his future wifey.

The S(n)acred Door by Carly Margolis
My aesthetic explores the trans-dimensional psychedelic realm via mythical landscapes, color, humor, and uplifting New Age symbolism. I opened the Sacred Door gallery to have a space where other energies could collide to create a new collective narrative. If you build it, they will come. Furthermore, if its a door, and its sacred, things will begin to open. As they say at all the best New Age gatherings “Thank you for sharing your beautiful healing energy!”
